Job Description:

Performance Systems Engineer

Up to $88K

 

The Systems Engineer will develop models, manage the development, review, communication, and change management associated with performance-related non-functional requirements. Models to develop and support include external demand models (demand models from the public and partners) as well as internal demand models (demand models between system components). A model is required for each stimulus source – external systems/users, internal systems/interfaces. Develop time allocation models for critical performance components. Develop Program-level scale-up plans to guide the scale-up activities of the Program and Projects. Develop and validate the Program-level performance plan. Identify needs and alternatives for system scalability, reliability, and availability and provide recommendations to the Program. Identify and document high level risks that may impact system performance.

 

Develop system sizing models for each system’s major components. These include networks, security devices, servers, storage, databases, memory, and operators. Consult with system teams on performance optimization and scaling strategies to ensure the systems can meet non-functional requirements for performance, scale and responsiveness. Review system designs to identify and remediate bottlenecks. Develop scaling strategies for systems and components. Validate modeling assumptions through testing and operational monitoring.

-Develop and maintain performance-related non-functional requirements (average/peak load, average response time, peak/average WIP, etc.).
-Develop Program-level scale-up plans to guide the scale-up activities of the Program and Projects.
-Develop and validate the Program-level performance plan.
-Develop and maintain system sizing models.
-Analysis of systems’ scaling approach and development of recommendations.
-Change Management of non-functional requirements.
-Validation of modeling assumptions.

 

Job Requirements:

 

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant major from an accredited college or university with 3+ years of continuous and progressive experience.
-3 years or more as an individual contributor role as a Performance Engineer or Junior Architect.
-Familiarity with cloud technology and infrastructure requirements to provide meaningful input on requirements and prioritization.
-Experience with performance analysis and modeling.
-Experience with scaling of complex systems.
-Experience working with complex systems through the full development life cycle.
-Familiarity with performance characteristics and bottlenecks of major system components including networks, security devices, servers, and storage.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
-Experience in a fast paced, external facing customer support department required.
-Experience with RMA analysis.
-Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in team environments and with other business organizations.
-Dynamic Modeling software (ExtendSIM preferred).
